PSHCE and Citizenship

PSHCE is a theme that permeates all aspects of school life. The essential features are those which promote the quality of life and the physical, social and mental well being of the individual.

PSHCE has been adapted to cover the five outcomes for school

  • Be healthy

  • Stay Safe

  • Enjoy and achieve

  • Make a positive contribution

  • Achieve economic well-being.

 It is also planned to support the healthy schools programme. KS1 and lower KS2 follow the  DANSI scheme. Upper KS2 follow a planned scheme of work. Topics covered in each year cover four ongoing themes:
  • The world of drugs and medicine
  • Keeping myself Safe and healthy
  • Me and my relationships.

Mission Statement

PSHCE is an integral part of the ethos and curriculum at Quarry View Primary School. We aim to provide children with the skills and information needed to maintain a safe and healthy life. PSHCE offers children the opportunity to develop attitudes that can help them to achieve a high quality of life

At Quarry View Primary School we believe that PSHCE should:

  • Promote quality of life through developing the physical, social and mental well being of the individual:
  • Encourage children to acquire an understanding of some of the issues covered by the four ongoing PSHCE themes;
  • Provide children with the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions;
  • Continue to raise self-esteem in accordance with the whole school ethos and positive discipline policy;
  • Enable children to benefit from formal and informal work with others encouraging co-operation, awareness and understanding;
  • Develop understanding of local and global decision making
  • Encourage children to lead a healthy life
