Display Policy Introduction Purpose and intended audience of the document: This display policy reflects the way in which we, as staff of Quarry View Primary School (Q.V.P.S) plan for display in the school. The document has been constructed and agreed by the staff of our school. It is intended to assist all teachers and students working in the school. It will be of interest to visitors, parents and governors of the school. It is intended to provide an insight into the management of display for any interested parties. Through the careful planning of display throughout the school we intend to contribute to the vision and mission statement for our school. Aims Our specific agreed aims for display at Q.V.P.S are: 1. To value all children’s work by displaying it in classrooms and around the school. 2. To create working displays that are visually stimulating and encourage discussion and interaction. 3. To create bright and attractive displays which reflects all aspects of the National Curriculum. 4. To give all children the opportunity to select their own works for display and develop critical skills to positively evaluate their own work and that of others. 5. To create an audience for children’s work and instil a sense of pride. Organisation The selection of children’s work for display should be done at an individual level and should demonstrate academic progression or creativity. Children should be encouraged to select their own work for display and to positively evaluate and take pride in displays. Environment Display procedures: 1. Classroom displays should be changed at least every half term. 2. Display should reflect a broad and balanced curriculum. 3. The period of changeover for a display should be kept to a minimum. 4. When a display is taken down children should be given the opportunity to take the work home (unless it is to be used as assessed work) 5. All work should be presented in an attractive manner, therefore enhancing its quality, e.g. use of backing papers, mounting work and borders on display boards. 6. Each piece of work should be clearly named. 7. Displayed written work should be at a low level so that the children can easily read it. 8. Each display should have a clear heading. 9. If children take part in mounting or lettering on a display it should be clearly stated that this is the case. Year group display boards See ‘display’ section for a full list of display board allocation. These boards should be changed each term. The displays as a whole should reflect all areas taught in the National Curriculum; the focus of each board will be decided upon through agreement of co-ordinator and year group leader each term. Each display should reflect the whole year group’s achievements. Framed Pieces of Art WorkIn Q.V.P.S we show that we value the children’s art work by carefully selecting pieces of work, mounting and framing them and then displaying them throughout the school.
