D and T
At Quarry View Primary School we love making things! Last year, we all got to work with Mrs Little on special Design and Technology projects during our class teacher’s PPA time. For example, Year 3 had a great time investigating different kinds of packaging and then using this knowledge to design and make their own boxes. Year 4 disassembled a range of money containers and then developed their sewing skills when they made purses. The Year 5 project was probably Mrs Little’s favourite. They created musical instruments, a subject after her own heart, as the school’s Music Co-ordinator.
2006 is an exciting year for Quarry View Primary School. We have introduced a new skills based curriculum. We have moved away from the QCA Schemes of Work and created our own Contexts for Learning. Instead of Design and Technology being taught in isolation it is now being taught through these Contexts for Learning. The children are able to see more easily the relevance of the technological skills they are practising. They are able to make links with Design and Technology and other subjects.
