CAP at the Fire Station

On Wednesday 21st March 2007, CAP visited Sunderland fire station to learn about the job of a firefighter, to look at their uniforms and to have a tour of the station.

We had a fantastic day and learnt lots about the fire service.

Firefighter Alan and Firefighter Scott met us at the station door and then took us to the ‘training room’, where they talked to us about fire safety and the importance of a smoke alarm in the home. We looked at firefighters’ uniforms and some of us even tried them on! Look!

We then had a tour of the station, where we looked at the fireman’s pole, the fire engine and the equipment firefighters use to help them to do their job.

Following this, Firefighter Alan and Firefighter Scott showed us how to use the hoses and let us have a go! This was our favourite part of the day. We had a wonderful time!  Look!

We talked about our visit when we got back to school and made a ‘Thank You’ picture for Alan and Scott to show our appreciation for such a fantastic day. We then brought this to the station the following day and presented it to Firefighter Alan.
